Point-of-Sale advertising includes all the means that manufacturers or distributors use to promote products where they are sold and in a customer-facing way. The aim is to push the product towards the consumer via efficient highlighting.
As the last communication link between the product and the consumer, its presence can be decisive in the act of purchasing. To illustrate the importance of POS advertising, one must realise that the customer decides on a purchase at the last minute in 55% of cases. Studies conducted in superstores show that, combined with packaging and wrapping, POS advertising plays a decisive role, particularly in “self service” sales.
Attracting attention
POS advertising is effective when it uses visual elements that are familiar to the consumer. The packaging or the logo are the first elements by which products are identified. The promotion of a brand, range, or product is largely dependent on POS advertising. In particular, it must be able to compensate for the consumer’s lack of familiarity by calling his or her attention to a new or changing product.

The POS advertising should make the consumer stop and think, to become an interested observer and then an active participant. In that spirit, it aims to increasingly develop the interactivity between the shopper and the product on offer.

The POS advertising should highlight the advantages of the product in a simple way: a tagline, a slogan, or an attention-getting number (discount, attractive price, etc). The right choice of decisive parameter can significantly increase the sales of a product in a retail or mass retail outlet.
